A Chronical of Wymondham Life 1780-1798 from early newspapers by Mary Miller

This collection of extracts from The Norfolk Chronicle aims to provide an interesting insight into local life during the late 18th century. The newspaper relied upon the local correspondent, be he schoolmaster or clerk, to record the significant events, and dispatch notes by carrier or stagecoach to its office.

These early newspaper reports include marriages, concerts, crimes and gruesome accidents and are a valuable resource for the local and family historian.

Wednesday last, was married at Wymondham, the Rev. Mr. Meyler, Dissenting Minister of that place, to Miss Susanna Rumsby, of Spexhall, in Suffolk; an agreeable lady with a genteel fortune.

On Christmas day, about ten o'clock in the morning, as a daughter of Mr. Henry Sutton, of Wymondham, was going to see her friends, she was attacked by a man on horseback and another on foot, who with many threats, robbed her of a bundle of cloaths.
